This is a preview of the Roald Dahl wordsearch pack up for sale on the Kids’ Printouts account. This 30-word wordsearch was created to support a Grade 5 class who had read the wonderful story of Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. The wordsearch puzzle, like wordsearches in general, was a great task to include in their learning to help them recall information about the story, reinforce spellings, encourage discussion about events, and to prepare them for a comprehension activity.

This is a great resource and sold so well during the time of the World Cup 2018. But your kids would still thoroughly enjoy this even if they don’t have a love for football/soccer. The wordsearch and anagrams activity are great activities to strengthen pattern-recognition skills and enhance vocabulary, and a fantastic way to practice pronunciation of names from around the world. You can even use this to get into the spirit of the Euro cup 2020! Or just because you love football / soccer in general : In this pack you’ll get a wordsearch of the teams which represented in the World Cup 2018 and two other activity sheets - one to name the countries by looking at the flag and colours of the football strip plus a list to choose from, and another (upwards differentiated version) with an added activity of anagrams; unscramble these to find the names of various World Cup 2018 footballers. 8 pages in total inc. answer sheet.

This quiz can be used as a comprehension exercise where children watch the film “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” and then answer as many questions correctly as they can. The adjusted / differentiated activity can be that the film is watched in two halves (or smaller chunks) to give children less to remember all at once and more of a chance to get all 18 questions correct! This activity can also be an opportunity to practice spellings, learn something new (what exactly is a barnacle?) and most importantly, have fun! You can also encourage children to come up with their own questions to test others. This is a suitable task for Grade 4 upwards (approximately 8+ years) and FYI the film has a PG rating. Answer sheet is included. If not used for skills practice, just save it for a treat or a rainy day!

Here are another set of activities for the final weeks of term and to get into the spirit of the world cup with your children. This one is biased towards England :) In this pack you will find two wordsearches: one for the World Cup 2018 England Squad and another for the World Cup 1966 Squad (why not?!). Both wordsearches have bonus words to find and these are in a Notepad file within this pack. You also get find a 15-question World Cup quiz, with a differentiated version which has an answer bank with answers to choose from (and yes ‘Brazil’ is meant to appear twice.) Answer sheet provided.
